Students Unleash their Creativity and Showcase Media Literacy Through Stamp Design

Hong Kong News-Expo 6th Anniversary: Commemorative Stamp Design Competition Awards Ceremony cum Financial Secretary Forum

To celebrate its sixth anniversary, the Hong Kong News-Expo held the awards ceremony for its 6th Anniversary Commemorative Stamp Design Competition on April 5 and invited Mr Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR to officiate the ceremony and speak at the subsequent financial forum. The event attracted around a hundred guests from the education, media, and other sectors.

Over 300 Entries Demonstrate Creativity Students and Media Literacy

The Commemorative Stamp Design Competition is themed as “Media and Information Literacy” and received overwhelming responses from 61 post-secondary institutions, secondary and primary schools. The judges found the entries to be of high quality, merging the historical architecture of the News-Expo and elements of modern media, which displayed the diversity of news industry using innovative visual language. Some entries also utilised the concept of interactive design to present the dynamic characteristics of information dissemination in the digital era.

Promoting Media Literacy and Passing On the Essence of Professional Journalism

Dr. John Chan Cho-chak, Chairman of the Hong Kong News-Expo, stated in his speech, “The creative entries of this competition not only showcased the artistic talents of our youth, but also demonstrated their commitment to professional journalism and media literacy. We used the winning entries to produce actual stamps which visitors can use to create their own postcards. The News-Expo will continue with our mission of being ‘Fair and Objective; Respectful of History’ to promote media and literacy education and cultivate more talents with innovation and media literacy for Hong Kong.”

The competition is divided into primary, lower secondary , higher secondary and tertiary divisions. A winner, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up and five entries with merit are selected in each group. The winning entries can be found at: https://bit.ly/HKNERS01
