News happens around us every day, not only conveying information, educating the public, and preserving cultural history, but also reflecting the pulse of our times and documenting history. Each news story may also leave a unique imprint on our lives. With this in mind, the Hong Kong News-Expo is organising the “My News Diary” Photography Competition, inviting primary, secondary, and tertiary students across Hong Kong to capture events or significant moments in their surroundings through a journalistic lens. Participants will use photography and written descriptions to express their perspectives, observations, and reflections on society, thereby nurturing their news sensitivity and critical thinking skills.

Competition Categories

1. Primary School Division: P1 to 6
2. Junior Secondary Division: S1 to 3
3. Senior Secondary Division: S4 to 6
4. Tertiary Division: Diploma or above

Judging & Awards

The competition will be judged by academics, media professionals, and members of the Hong Kong News-Expo. Entries will be assessed based on: 1) Theme, 2) Creativity, 3) Expression of Emotions, and 4) Visual Presentation. Winners will be selected from each division, including:

Champion: Book vouchers worth HK$1,500, a certificate, and one Hong Kong News-Expo game voucher

First Runner-up: Book vouchers worth HK$1,000, a certificate, and one Hong Kong News-Expo game voucher

Second Runner-up: Book vouchers worth HK$800, a certificate, and one Hong Kong News-Expo game voucher

Merit (5 winners per division): Book vouchers worth HK$300, a certificate, and one Hong Kong News-Expo game voucher

Winning entries may be exhibited at the Hong Kong News-Expo. All eligible participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Entry Submission

Participants must take a photograph documenting an event or significant moment in their surroundings and provide a written description (up to 150 words) explaining how this news story has impacted them. Entries may be in Chinese or English.

Please complete the Google Form and upload a digital file of the photograph (JPEG or PNG, maximum 10MB) along with the written description.

Competition Rules

1. Entries must align with the theme of the competition. Participants must ensure their submissions are original and not produced using generative AI or other automated creation tools. Works must not have been previously published or entered in similar competitions.
2. Entries must not contain obscene, violent, pornographic, defamatory, offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate or controversial content.
3. The Hong Kong News-Expo reserves the final right to interpret and amend competition rules.
4. All judging decisions are final and at the sole discretion of the judging panel and the Hong Kong News-Expo. Participants may not contest the results, and there is no appeals process in place.
5. By entering, participants agree that the Hong Kong News-Expo may reproduce, modify, display, publish, and distribute submitted works in any media for promotional or educational purposes without additional compensation or prior notice.
6. Employees of the Hong Kong News-Expo, judging panel members, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.

Copyright

1. Participants must comply with copyright laws. If an entry is found to infringe copyright or involve plagiarism, imitation, or unauthorised use of third-party work, the participant will be disqualified and have to assume full legal responsibility. The Hong Kong News-Expo bears no liability for any legal disputes arising from such violations.
2. Participants agree that the Hong Kong News-Expo retains intellectual property rights to submitted works and may use them in any format for promotional or educational purposes, including but not limited to exhibitions and publications.
3. By submitting an entry, participants confirm their full acceptance of all terms and conditions, waiving any claims against the Hong Kong News-Expo for the use of their works and agreeing to indemnify the organiser for any losses resulting from breaches of these rules.

Personal Data Collection Statement

1. Personal data collected will be used solely for the competition and related activities.
2. Under normal circumstances, the Hong Kong News-Expo will not sell, exchange, or disclose your personal data to third parties without your consent. Only authorised staff may access your data for administrative purposes.
3. In exceptional cases, the Hong Kong News-Expo reserves the right to disclose personal data without prior consent, including but not limited to: Protecting the organiser’s rights, copyright, and intellectual property; Investigating illegal activities; Complying with legal requirements; and ensuring the safety of participants and the public.

Results Announcement: 14 November 2025 (FRI), on the Hong Kong News-Expo website and social media platforms. An awards ceremony will be held in December.
